# Sindhu Raj: The King of the Ocean He was the king of the ocean. His body was blue and opaque, and he lived deep, deep within the sea. He was half man and half fish. He had arms like an octopus and a face like a starfish. He ruled the sea and carried an iron staff in his octopus-like tentacles. He was large, and he was fierce. He swam through the deep blue sea. He was the king of the fishes and swam among the sharks, but what he loved most was battling the mammoth blue whale. The blue whale was called Vishal Kaye. He would throw his harpoon at the whale and chase behind her tail. Sindhu Raj was put to the test when a submarine locked onto him and tried to finish him off with its torpedo. There was a war going on at the surface of the ocean, and the fishes were caught in the crossfire. They all looked to the King of the Ocean to save them.

Skater was a penguin who lived with his family in Antarctica. He lived with his father, Sukuku, and his mother, Sumatra, along with their younger siblings, Ra, Ka, and Tia. He would skate on the salty ice of Antarctica and dance to the tune of “Moonlight” by Sinatra. He would jump with joy, perform skids and funny turns, and even lift his siblings into the air. His best friend was a sea lion called Tum Yum, who would skate with him and run after him, kicking up the Antarctic ice. They were a happy bunch and would go deep diving in the sea in search of blue whales and icebergs. They ate small fish and crabs and would sleep in icy caves at night. But their happy world was shattered with the arrival of the white wolves of Antarctica. A pack of wolves, led by a ferocious grey-and-white wolf called Zora, attacked them and killed his two siblings, Ra and Ka, for food. The penguin family was terrified and in disarray. They had no means of defending themselves, so they hid under an icy cave. Sukuku dived into the icy water by cutting a hole in a sheet of ice. Skater was consumed by fear and cried for help. Help soon arrived in the shape of a pack of polar bears—large and ferocious, with huge paws and sharp teeth. Their leader was Mofasa, a gigantic white bear who was ready to attack the wolves. With the help of Skater, they built an ice trap for the wolves and slowly brought them to their doom.

Badi in Bengali means a home or a mohalla—a place where a family lives. But when love is denied to two star-crossed lovers, the same Badi transforms into a nightmare: a cursed place, barren and hollow, consumed by darkness. Lala and Meena were the two lovers who died in their desperate quest to be together. Lala was a strapping young wrestler who could defeat almost any man in the ring. Fair-skinned and over six feet tall, he came from a wealthy family that lived in the Badi. Meena was a courtesan—a tawaif, a dancing girl who had been sold to a brothel. On Lala's birthday, Chunni Lal decided to gift him a night with the courtesan. That night, Lala fell deeply in love with Meena. Determined to free her from the life of the brothel, he decided to run away with her. But the lovers were relentlessly pursued by the pimps of Kasturi, the ruthless madam who owned the brothel. They were eventually cornered and brutally beaten to death with hammers and tree trunks by Kasturi's enforcers, Kukarma and Vikarma. After their deaths, the people living nearby began hearing the lovers' anguished screams echoing through the night. Children claimed they saw dark shadows crawling along the walls after sunset. Strange and unnatural events plagued the Badi. Men walking through its narrow lanes often felt someone tap them on the shoulder, but whenever they turned around, there was no one there. As these incidents became more frequent, the locals came to believe that the Badi was haunted by the restless spirits of the two lovers. Gradually, families abandoned their homes, and the once-lively neighborhood became a desolate, haunted ruin. The legend of Kali Badi, however, spread far and wide. Young couples began visiting the dilapidated Badi, seeing it as a monument to eternal love. To them, it was a sacred place where two lovers had sacrificed their lives rather than live apart—a tragic symbol of love that transcended death. Trouble begins when a powerful real estate developer named Kukreja arrives with plans to purchase the haunted land of Kali Badi and build a sprawling shopping mall. As excavation begins, the hauntings intensify. Strange and terrifying events plague the construction site, and Kukreja and his workers find themselves opposed by unseen, malevolent forces that refuse to surrender the land. The curse of Kali Badi awakens once again...

THE WEATHER WAS AMAZING, AND THE AIR WAS PURE. I VISITED THE HORNBILL FESTIVAL AND CHATTED WITH THE HEAD-HUNTERS OF NAGALAND.
