BJP President J.P. Nadda, accompanied by several party leaders, attended a screening of the movie *The Sabarmati Report* at a theater in New Delhi on Tuesday. He praised the film for exposing the “truth” behind the 2002 Godhra train burning incident, while also criticizing the Congress and its allies for suppressing the facts.
Speaking to the media, Nadda expressed regret that it took over 22 years for the truth to emerge about the tragic incident in which more than 55 passengers, returning from Ayodhya, were burned alive. The Gujarat Police had attributed the fire to a Muslim mob, while an inquiry commission set up by the Railway Ministry under the Congress-led UPA government called it an accident. However, courts later convicted several individuals based on the chargesheets filed by the police, thus supporting the police’s version of events.
Nadda accused the Congress and its allies of deliberately hiding the truth, pointing out that Sonia Gandhi was the UPA chairperson at the time. He alleged that the Congress led a politics of appeasement, and that the so-called Left-liberal ecosystem worked to obscure the facts and target those trying to bring them to light.
He commended the producer, director, and actors of the film for their “courage” and urged the public to watch the film with their families to understand how the kar-sevaks (volunteers working at the Ram temple in Ayodhya) were tragically killed. Nadda also highlighted that this film marks the first time all 59 victims of the tragedy have been named.
Several BJP leaders, including MPs Baijayant Jay Panda, Arun Singh, and Anil Baluni, joined Nadda for the screening, which has received support from top government officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
