Ranveer Singh set to headline adaptation of Amish Tripathi’s The Immortals of Meluha trilogy

After impressing audiences with his intense role as Hamza in the Dhurandhar films, Ranveer Singh may now be preparing for a major transformation on screen. According to recent reports, the actor is set to portray a character inspired by Lord Shiva in a cinematic adaptation of Amish Tripathi’s bestselling Shiva Trilogy, beginning with The Immortals of Meluha.

Ranveer acquires rights to Shiva Trilogy

Ranveer has reportedly secured the adaptation rights to The Immortals of Meluha through his production house, Maa Kasam Film. The ambitious project is expected to be developed as a three-part cinematic franchise in collaboration with Birla Studios.

The novel and its sequels chronicle the journey of Shiva, a warrior from the Himalayas who rises to prominence in the ancient land of Meluha. Sources quoted in the report claim that the actor has been deeply interested in bringing the beloved mythology-inspired saga to theatres for several years.

The screenplay and world-building process has reportedly already begun, with the makers aiming to build a large-scale cinematic universe around the trilogy. While the project is still in the early stages, the first installment is expected to go on floors in 2028.

Director yet to be finalised

The report further states that the makers are currently prioritising script development before locking a director for the ambitious venture. The team is said to be taking time to carefully shape the screenplay and visual universe before moving ahead with production decisions.

About The Immortals of Meluha

Released in 2010, The Immortals of Meluha marked the beginning of Amish Tripathi’s widely popular Shiva Trilogy and the larger “Amishverse.” The story reimagines Lord Shiva as a mortal man whose actions eventually earn him the status of a deity.

Set in the ancient civilisation of Meluha, inspired by the Indus Valley Civilisation, the novels blend mythology, fantasy, and historical fiction. Shiva is introduced as a Himalayan warrior who is believed to be the prophesied Neelkanth, the saviour destined to protect the kingdom.

The trilogy continued with The Secret of the Nagas and The Oath of the Vayuputras. Since publication, the series has emerged as one of the biggest successes in Indian publishing, with over 2.5 million copies sold in print.
