Renowned Malayalam playback singer P. Jayachandran, widely known as ‘Bhava Gayakan’ for his emotive and soulful singing, passed away on January 9, 2025, at the age of 80. He breathed his last at Amala Hospital in Thrissur, Kerala, after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Throughout his illustrious career, Jayachandran recorded over 16,000 songs in multiple languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. He collaborated with some of the most iconic composers in Indian cinema, including G. Devarajan, M. S. Baburaj, and Ilaiyaraaja.

His emotive and heartfelt renditions earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1986, and five Kerala State Film Awards. In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the Malayalam film industry, he was honored with the J. C. Daniel Award in 2020, the highest honor in Malayalam cinema.
