The controversy about Gangubai Kathiawadi is very strange . The movie in which Alia Bhat had played the lead role of the legendary whore Gangu Bai Kathiawadi indeed looks very fresh , honest and ravishing . I just saw the video’s of the promotions they are doing the rounds of youtube.com and have been liked by all as impactful and very powerful .
Now the adopted son of Gangu has filed a petition in the courts against the makers of the content and Alia and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have been summoned in the court . The accusation is that they have de famed the legacy of their mother and have tarnished her image in public there have been cries from certain quarters amongst politician’s that the name of Kathiawadi has also bought disrepute to the area where many daughters have grown up to join the air force and many reputable professions , the are is being dragged into disrepute and is being de famed .
My question is how can a legendary whore be disrupted since prostitution it self is a di reputable profession as considered by society . So how can one disrespect or de fame some one who is in a disrespected profession . It really doesn’t make sense at all to me , I am sure the adopted son is feeling hurt that her mothers life as a king pin whore is being branded about in such a manner , I can understand the hurt but it will be very difficult to win a libel on just proving hurt , libel case are not very easy to win or prove . The aggrieved party will have to spend some good money to prove libel before they can get some kind of compensation which is equitable and the case will take years to fight and win at least in our judicial system minus time will be 10 years or so . The immediate response of pain and hurt has caused the adopted son to act , but as time goes the pain will subside , I am sure he is doing this to seek some money from the proceeds of his mothers film if it does well , these are ways of extracting some of the profits of the producer and director .
The controversy will needless help the film as more people will read about the film and watch the videos , the videos will get views and thus create a larger audience . If the film makes good money then maybe producers can part with some of their earnings .Either ways the lawyers of the aggrieved will have a field day and make money by extracting fees .
