My room number at the Marriott Hotel is room 568, which is a very significant number cinematically, it is the hotel room number in the iconic Dustin Hoffman film the graduate where he is seduced by the sexy Mrs. Robinson and has sex with her for the first time. It’s amazing that my current room number is also 568. The movie traces the romance of Dustin with Anne Bancroft as she seduces him to have sex with her and that too in room 568.
The Graduate looks like the perfect example for a movie that we should take cues from when making I also Slept with Rashmi Verma, here too we are exploring young romance between Anuj and Rashmi in a retro 1996 1998 graduate MBA College setting. In the movie, Dustin Hoffman’s character Ben falls in love and has a summer romance with the much older and married character of Ann Bancroft with music by Gurfunkle the movie is timeless and talks about innocence and discovering new things.
He does not want the life of his parents and wants to live a free existence. We watch Dustin’s character evolve as the gets entangled in an affair with the older Robinson and then with her daughter who he runs away with from a church wedding. The music is fantastic especially “Hello Miss Robinsons.” The film is ageless and timeless so is the significance of Room 568 the plush hotel room in which he makes love to Robinson, a somewhat lonely woman living a caged existence bored with life with an alcohol problem of her own.
With its retro feel, it will mirror my web movie very well and is a great film to draw inspiration from as I move forward on my project.
