It has been two days in the hill city of Chikmagalur and I have taken long evening walks around its many bazaars and marketplaces . The city is full of eateries , restaurants and sweet shops . I even managed to have dinner in a famous joint selling chaat and vegetarian grub like chola puri . Karnataka per se has been a revelation for me it is for the first time I managed to travel from one city to another through villages small towns and huge farm land . I travelled to towns like Belur , Hassan , Hospet , Hosur meandering though dusty Rodas and rows and rows of coconut trees . The country side is also full of temples it reminded me of the temples I had seen Srilanka , colourful blue , pink , green and yellow .
Hoysaleshwara Temple complex is another interesting place a huge temple of Shiva and Nandi it is a delight fro many tourists who come here to enjoy the sculptures and the beautiful idols .I took up a guide as usual and he spent most of his time telling me about each one of the carvings depicted on the outer sanctum of the temple . There where images of Shankara , Durga vanquishing a demon and Ravana fighting a bird . Very intricate carvings made from soap stone they where indeed marvellous .
I managed to buy a laddoo as well hell I was hungry and wanted something to eat and what better then a laddoo it was perfect . They’re where people selling maps and books and I bought a small statue of Ganesh just for some good luck .
