Chemical Nature and the Emergence of Street Performers
I have been spending a lot of time wandering around Connaught Place these days, and what really caught my eye was the emergence of street performers and buskers in India. Busking or street performance has been a very Western culture; it emerged on the streets of London and New York, where people performed in tube stations and parks. Now it seems that India has also taken up the cue.
I was amused to see a man impersonating Michael Jackson. He stood dressed as Jackson like a statue, and I even managed to get a picture taken with him. As I wandered further, I saw a sadhu dressed in saffron robes playing the ektara as passersby threw coins at him and gave him alms for his performance.

But what really impressed me were three young lads who were dancing to hip-hop and breakdance numbers right in the middle of Connaught Place.
It was a very electrifying dance performance, and I really enjoyed it. They were all in their early twenties, and they were really hitting the floor hard. The group was called Chemical Nature. These guys were grooving intensely, and some of their moves were just wow. They performed really difficult acrobatic moves that could only be achieved with hard training. The flips they did โ they were performing like professionals, and I was truly impressed with their gigs.
I managed to get an interview with them as well and gave them Rs 500 for their entertainment. The group had managed to pull quite a crowd.
Enjoy some pictures and videos of these brilliant street performers who are really heating up the streets and corners of Delhi.
