Apple iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max Launched: Price, Features and Everything You Need to Know

Apple has officially unveiled its latest flagship smartphones, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, bringing a series of major upgrades aimed at photography, performance, battery life and artificial intelligence.

The new Pro models are powered by Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chipset, run iOS 27 and feature an updated Dynamic Island. The camera system has also received one of its biggest upgrades yet with the introduction of variable aperture technology.

iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max Price in India

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs 1,64,900 in India, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900.

Both smartphones will be offered in four storage configurations:

  • 256GB
  • 512GB
  • 1TB
  • 2TB

Apple is introducing the new Pro models in four finishes — Black, Silver, Glacier and the new Burgundy colour option.

Pre-orders for the smartphones will begin on September 12, with sales starting September 18. India is among the markets included in Apple’s first wave of availability.

Variable Aperture Arrives on the iPhone

One of the biggest changes to the iPhone 18 Pro camera system is the introduction of variable aperture technology.

Both models feature a 48MP Fusion Main camera with adjustable aperture, marking the first time Apple has brought this technology to an iPhone.

The system uses six laser-cut blades and provides four aperture settings. The camera can automatically choose the appropriate aperture depending on lighting and depth-of-field requirements. Users can also manually control the aperture when they want greater creative control over their photographs.

Apple has further expanded the professional controls available through the Camera app. Users can adjust settings such as aperture, shutter speed and white balance, while a histogram provides additional control over exposure.

Photographic Styles have also been enhanced with new texture and grain controls.

Major Video Improvements

The iPhone 18 Pro series also brings several upgrades for video creators.

Apple has introduced post-capture Cinematic effects for videos recorded at up to 60fps. The phones can also capture 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapse videos, giving users more options for professional-looking footage directly from the smartphone.

A20 Pro Chip Brings More Power

Powering both flagship models is Apple’s new A20 Pro processor, which is manufactured using advanced 2nm process technology.

The chip features a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and a 32-core Neural Engine. Together, these components are designed to improve gaming, demanding applications and on-device artificial intelligence tasks.

Apple claims that the A20 Pro delivers up to 50 percent greater memory bandwidth compared with the previous-generation A19 Pro, while its GPU can be up to 40 percent faster.

To help maintain performance during extended workloads, Apple has also redesigned the vapour chamber. The new cooling system has three times the surface area of the previous design, helping the devices manage heat during intensive tasks.

iPhone 18 Pro Max Offers Longer Battery Life

Battery performance is another major difference between the two Pro models.

The eSIM-only iPhone 18 Pro Max offers up to 45 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro is rated for up to 36 hours.

Apple says the Pro Max can provide approximately seven hours of additional video playback after just five minutes of wired charging.

The iPhone 18 Pro can reach 50 percent charge in approximately 15 minutes using wired charging, while wireless charging can take the device to 50 percent in around 30 minutes.

iOS 27 and the Next Generation of Apple Intelligence

Both smartphones ship with iOS 27 and Apple’s next generation of Apple Intelligence, including a beta version of its upgraded Siri experience.

The new Siri is designed to better understand personal context, recognise information displayed on the screen and perform actions across supported applications.

Apple Intelligence also introduces and expands several AI-powered features, including Spatial Reframing, Extend, an improved Clean Up tool and photorealistic image generation through Image Playground.

With these additions, Apple is positioning the iPhone 18 Pro lineup not just as a hardware upgrade, but as a more powerful platform for photography, productivity, gaming and on-device AI.

iPhone 18 Pro Series: A Major Pro Upgrade

With a new A20 Pro processor, variable-aperture camera technology, improved video capabilities, longer battery life on the Pro Max and expanded Apple Intelligence features, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max represent a significant upgrade to Apple’s flagship smartphone lineup.

For users who prioritise mobile photography, high-end performance and AI-powered features, the new Pro models are clearly aimed at delivering Apple’s most advanced iPhone experience yet.
