An Auto Ride to Bamin Hading
Bamin Hading, also called the Orchid Park, is located near Haflong in the hills of Dima Hasao district in Assam. Tucked away around 14–20 km from Haflong town, Bamin Hading is emerging as a scenic getaway spot along the Sontila/Bakorma road ridge.
This place offers a spectacular view and lies some distance from Jatinga. One has to climb up and down a jagged hill to reach the viewpoint at Bamin Hading. From the ridge, you get a sweeping view of the surrounding hills and dense valleys, their mist-clad slopes making it ideal for visits in the early morning or late afternoon. The Orchid Park moniker suggests clusters of orchids, floral displays, and nature walks — making it a perfect hill escape near Haflong. The roads leading to the viewpoint are lined with yellow and purple flowers, soothing to the eyes and spirit.
Make sure you visit Bamin Hading in the morning when the sun is out and the weather is clear — that way, you’ll get an unobstructed view of the sky and surrounding hills. Wear comfortable shoes, as you may need to walk uphill at times to explore the entire area.
Bamin Hading
I had a late breakfast and took my regular auto to reach this delightful hill region of Assam. Breakfast was poori and chana dal with scrambled eggs. The auto ride itself was fun — we first crossed the 5th Army Battalion of the Assam Rifles and then meandered towards a local temple on the way. It was closed, but I managed to sneak in for a quick prayer. We rested for a while, and I had some tea and biscuits from a small shanty serving snacks. Bamin Hading is truly a photographer’s delight — I managed to capture some really beautiful shots.
On the way back, I had samosas and rasgullas at another local tea stall that was also selling savories. The auto ride was a bit uncomfortable at times, as I kept bumping my knees and shins against the steel sides of the auto, but the views made up for it — a clear panorama of the hills and mountains stretched before me.
All in all, it was a trip filled with bright flowers, misty slopes, and deep valleys. Bamin Hading is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Jatinga Village.
