Actor Sanjay Dutt has issued an apology to the National Commission for Women (NCW) following the controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke. The track, from the Kannada pan-India film KD: The Devil, sparked widespread criticism over its suggestive lyrics and choreography.

The backlash began in March after the song’s release, featuring Nora Fatehi alongside Dutt. Critics and viewers raised concerns about alleged obscenity and vulgarity, prompting the NCW to summon the actors and others associated with the project.

On April 27, Dutt appeared before the commission in person, accompanied by his legal counsel. According to ANI, his lawyer stated that the actor expressed deep respect for women and the commission, adding that he was not fully aware of the song’s wording at the time of recording. Despite this, Dutt offered an unconditional apology. He also voluntarily pledged to sponsor the education of 50 children from tribal communities as a goodwill gesture. His lawyer further clarified that the song had originally been recorded in a different language.

Earlier, the NCW had issued a statement noting that the song’s content appeared “sexually suggestive, objectionable, and potentially in violation” of provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the IT Act, and the POCSO Act. The commission had taken suo motu cognizance of media reports highlighting the issue.

‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’, directed by Prem for KD: The Devil, drew criticism for its double entendre-filled lyrics. The opening verses were interpreted by many as graphically suggestive, though later lines revealed metaphorical references to a drink and bottle. Despite this, the song’s tone and choreography were widely criticised for being overly suggestive and objectifying.
