My routine has changed dramatically as I am up by 6:30 a.m. every morning these days. The most exciting part of the day is the early morning swim along with meditation. I take brisk laps in the pool and then stand on the edge to chant out loud: “Om, om, om.” This is to let a lot of oxygen into my body and clear my lungs. I enjoy doing the “om” chanting meditation as it is very therapeutic.
Then, I have my daily dose of vitamins along with a breakfast of poha, ghee salad, and papaya. I quite enjoy having a breakfast that’s lean and light. During the day, I munch on dates and cashew nuts.
Today, we decided to watch a movie and ventured out to the INOX Cinema to watch the much-awaited movie Emergency starring Kangana Ranaut. I checked into the theatre, but my friend Ani decided to step out for some work. I ended up watching the movie alone. Kangana’s acting was amazing, and the makeup with the prosthetics really made her look like Indira Gandhi.
I thought the movie had been shot amateurishly at times, but it did recreate the history of Indian politics during the Emergency very well. The movie serves as a history lesson for the youth. I was three years old when the Emergency was declared. Although I have no memory of that time, I do remember my folks talking about it, especially about Sanjay Gandhi and his plane crash, which still lingers in my mind.
I liked the climax when Indira Gandhi was shot by her own bodyguards. The entire Khalistan movement and the tragic demise of Indira Gandhi were dramatized well. Sadly, there was not much of an audience—only about a dozen people. For the first week itself, this is disappointing.
After the movie, I did some brisk walking around the cinema hall. Then Ani and I headed to Sandi’s Persian Cuisine Restaurant for kebabs and lemon soda. Although it was warm in the afternoon, the air conditioning in the hall kept me cool. I am really starting to feel the buzz of Goa now and find myself in a happy state of mind.
