Walking Through Time: My Experience on the Diu Fort Heritage Walkway
There is something magical about walking where history once stood guard. My visit to the Diu Fort Heritage Walkway was not just a stroll along old stone walls โ it was a journey into centuries of stories carried by the sea, the wind, and time itself. As I stood beside the blue โHeritage Walkwayโ sign at the entrance, I felt like I was about to step into another era.
The Gateway to the Past
The walkway begins near the grand fort walls of Diu Fort, a 16th-century Portuguese stronghold that still stands tall against the Arabian Sea. The thick stone ramparts, arched gateways, and weathered textures immediately transport you back in time.
Climbing the wide stone steps, I paused for a moment. The walls around me were thick and made of yellow stone. It is a breezy walk next to the sea, and there are stalls outside where people serve food and enjoy the fresh air. It is very much a family-friendly spot for everyone to enjoy.
I enjoyed the seafood immensely โ prawns and crabs were my favourites. It was wonderful. I have now spent a whole week in Diu, and so far this has been my best Gujarat expedition.
The markets remain closed in the afternoon as it gets quite hot, but the evenings are cooler and perfect for walking along the sandy shore by the sea.
โSir, aap bahut shaant aadmi ho, maza aa gaya. Main aapka fan hoon, sir. Poora state ghumayega main aapko, full enjoy.โ
Vidhani has become more of a friend than just a driver to me, and I think he genuinely enjoyed my company. We would often have breakfast together โ samosa, jalebi, and dhokla. I quite enjoyed sipping a crisp bottle of Corona beer, which became my favourite.
Heritage Walkway
Luckily, the toothache I had been suffering from has subsided after I started using mouthwash regularly. It has worked well for me, and now I am able to enjoy my food with great gusto.
I found Diu invigorating โ it is a must-see place if one is visiting Gujarat. Many say Gujaratis come here to enjoy liquor and beer, as alcohol is banned in the state. It is truly a wonderful place to unwind, reflect, and write poems. I very much loved the sea breeze in the morning and the entire relaxed vibe of this charming beach city.
