Shera was a dark brown lion who ruled the Jungle of Amboseli. He lived in the jungle with his pride: Shareeka, his lioness, and their two cubs, Leo and Panthera. They lived in harmony with nature, guided by the jungle winds and the wise witch doctor, an old monkey called Jagira.

Trouble arose when a group of hyenas attacked Shareeka while she was drinking water from the pond. Led by a cunning hyena with a limp in his leg called Kiriki, the group of four hyenas attacked Shareeka and bruised her skin, making her bleed. This angered Shera, who sought the help of the elephant Jagira to launch a counterattack against the army of scavengers, which included the vulture Jataya. The battle turned the brown earth of the jungle red as the war for supremacy began.
