Bollywood actor-director and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut revealed on Wednesday that she had personally requested Wayanad Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to watch Emergency, her directorial film based on the events of Indira Gandhi’s tenure as prime minister, which was also the grandmother of Vadra.
When asked about any interaction with the Gandhi family concerning her upcoming film, Ranaut shared that during an encounter with Vadra in Parliament, the Congress leader complimented her on her work and hairstyle.
Ranaut then informed Vadra about the film Emergency and asked her to watch it. Vadra’s response was a casual “okay, maybe.”
Ranaut explained, “No, they didn’t reach out to me, but I did meet Priyanka Gandhi in Parliament. She complimented my work and hair. So, I mentioned that I made a film called Emergency and suggested that she might want to see it. Her response was, ‘Okay, maybe.’ I believe if they are open to acknowledging the past, they might appreciate the film.”
Produced by Manikarnika Films, Emergency features Ranaut in the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, focusing on the 21-month Emergency imposed in 1975.
The film is scheduled to release on January 17, following months of controversy surrounding its censor certificate and claims of misrepresenting the Sikh community.
