One can drive from Haflong, which is also a major town in this part of the world. The drive winds through serpentine hill passes and dense forests, with waterfalls cascading by the roadside and small tribal huts beside ponds — a common sight here. Maibang is not a crowded hill station; it is a town with a soul, one that has shaped the history of this region. From the 16th to the 18th century, Maibang served as the capital of the Dimasa kings, and remnants of their royal past can still be seen today.

You can explore the Rang Ghar, an old structure that once served as the administrative hub of the city. Its stone architecture stands as a testimony to an era of craftsmanship and power. There is also the scenic Jadisil Waterfall, surrounded by lush greenery, and the Maibang Stone Inscription, a carved relic narrating chapters of Dimasa history through its preserved ruins.

It was a joy just walking through this city…
