What was most important for me was capturing a Goan wedding for my blog, and I had been thinking about it for a few days. Today was my lucky day, as Ani and I drove past one just in the nick of time. We were meandering through the streets in my car, admiring the opulent houses and bungalows of Goa. I was struck by the vibrant colors of their walls and the large, well-maintained gardens and courtyards just in front of the bungalows. Some of them were as old as four hundred years. They were large and stood out due to their unique architectural style.
Just as we were passing by, I spotted a Goan wedding taking place. I jumped out of the car and approached the house, where guests were dressed in elegant grey and silver suits. Everyone was decked out—the ladies wore expensive, colorful dresses in shades of purple, red, and black. The house was decorated with ribbons. There were celebrations on the street as people lit firecrackers and created a lively atmosphere.
Gaon Wedding
I managed to strike up a conversation with a guest who seemed to be the organizer and told him that I wanted to cover the wedding. He readily agreed, and I soon entered the house. Everyone was packed into a room where the priest was reciting the wedding vows. The bride was dressed in a beautiful white gown, while the groom wore a black suit and tie. The priest was praying for the couple’s health and vitality as others sang wedding songs for them.
It was a truly traditional Goan wedding, just as I had imagined. I was so excited that I even recorded a video of the live ceremony. The guests seemed delighted that a travel blogger was among them, and they happily allowed me to take photographs of the wedding and its many ceremonies.
