Exploring Nagaland Zoological Park – A Serene Escape into Nature
Nestled on the outskirts of Dimapur, Nagaland Zoological Park, Rangapahar, is one of the most refreshing green escapes for anyone visiting the region. Spread across 176 hectares, the zoo is an ideal blend of wildlife, forest ambience, and quiet nature trails that let you reconnect with the natural world. This peaceful destination is perfect for travellers seeking calm surroundings, families looking for an educational outing, or solo wanderers exploring Nagaland’s lesser-known gems.
The journey starts at the ticket counter. The entry ticket is ₹40 per person. A blue board lists the timings and camera fees, along with safety and hygiene guidelines for the place. This disciplined yet warm environment sets the tone for the experience ahead.
Nature Trail: A Walk into the Wild
One of the most charming features of the park is the nature trail. It’s a walk inside a lush green forest area, covered by large trees with plenty of green foliage. The trail feels very serene, with sunlight filtering through the tall trees and the earthy aroma of the forest all around. It is perfect for a quiet, reflective walk and feels very peaceful.
The Zoo
There is also a zoo here, which was founded on 28th August 2008, and it is spread over an area of 176 hectares. It is about 8 km from Dimapur, around a twenty-minute drive.
Nagaland Zoological Park
The zoo is home to Hoolock gibbons, barking deer, hornbills, clouded leopards, and other reptiles and smaller mammals. The atmosphere inside the park is relaxed and clean, making it a refreshing getaway. The zoo is especially enjoyable during the late afternoon.
This turned out to be a very educational experience, and I quite enjoyed snapping photos of the alligators and the large pythons that were kept in the display enclosure of the zoo.
All in all, it was an enriching experience for me in Dimapur, Nagaland.
