If you are craving a peaceful coastal escape that feels worlds away from the hustle of city life, Devka Beach in Nani Daman is a perfect hidden gem. Just a short drive from Ahmedabad, this underrated stretch along the Arabian Sea offers raw, unfiltered charm — especially when the tide is low and the vast shoreline opens up like a painting. I recently spent a relaxed afternoon here with my camera, and these moments captured it all.

A Beach Like No Other

Devka Beach isn’t your typical postcard-perfect swimming spot. Instead, it is a dramatic expanse of dark, rocky sand mixed with muddy tidal flats that stretch endlessly when the sea retreats.

The first thing that hits you is the sheer scale — kilometres of open shore with just a handful of locals and visitors scattered like tiny dots against the horizon. People stroll casually, kids play in the shallow puddles, and the sky feels impossibly vast and blue.

It’s the kind of place where time slows down — no loud music, no crowds pushing for selfies, just the gentle sound of distant waves and the salty breeze.

A Romantic Corner

Look closer and you will spot quiet stories unfolding everywhere. A couple sits peacefully on the edge of the wet sand, lost in conversation as the water laps gently nearby. It’s pure serenity.

Further along, colourful fishing boats rest in the shallow pools left by the receding tide, waiting for the next high water. Fishermen and families mill about, adding that authentic coastal vibe that makes Devka feel lived-in and real rather than touristy.

The Approach and That First Glimpse

The drive to the beach itself is part of the experience. You turn onto Seaface Road, passing the lively Devka Beach entrance lined with street vendors, police checkpoints, scooters zipping by, and that iconic spiral water tower standing tall against the sky.

It’s your first hint that something special is waiting just ahead.

The Perfect Frame: Views from the Arch

One of my favourite spots was this beautiful stone archway overlooking the entire bay. Sitting there, with my backpack at my side and watching the endless horizon, it felt like the beach was putting on a private show just for me.

Pro Tip: Come in the late afternoon or early evening. The sunsets here are legendary — soft golden light, dramatic clouds, and that magical hush as the day slowly winds down.

Practical Tips

The best time to visit is October to March. Avoid swimming, as the rocky, muddy bottom and strong currents make it unsafe.

A good place to stay is Devka Beach Resort, where I am currently staying. It is just four minutes from the main Devka Beach area. There are also small restaurants and amusement parks nearby.

You can even hire bicycles and ride around the causeway and along the beach, returning them to the stands afterward.

Carry sunscreen, water, and sturdy shoes.

Final Thoughts

Devka Beach is not flashy or commercialised like many bigger tourist beaches. It is honest, peaceful, and refreshingly real — a reminder that sometimes the best beaches are the ones where you can simply sit, breathe, and watch the sea do its thing.
